Robert O.  Green
Tupelo - Robert Oklen “R.O.” Green, 80, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at The North Mississippi Medical Center. A native of Itawamba County, he was born July 20, 1931, to Ulmer and Myrtle Helen Phillips Green. Earlier in life, he worked 16 years in sales for Pepsi Cola Bottling and later for Saunders & Associates Food Brokerage until his retirement. He was a past member of the Breakfast Civitan Club and an avid sportsman and Mississippi State Bulldogs fan. He enjoyed restoring old tractors, cooking for his family and gardening. Every Thursday he enjoyed playing Rook with his church friends and every Tuesday morning, having coffee at Papa V's. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and church clerk. He also coached the church men's softball team and participated in the Senior Adult PEP Club.

Services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Gayle Alexander, Rev. Chad Grayson and Rev. Ricky Young officiating. Burial will be in Keys Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 59 years, Frances Herndon Green of Tupelo; two daughters, Deborah Green Martin of Tupelo and Denise Green Martin (Richard) of Hoover, Ala.; two sisters, Grace Sanderson (Jerry) of Amory and Olene Waddle of Dorsey; three grandchildren, Michelle Richardson (Bobby) of Saltillo, Marc Martin of Pittsburg, Pa. and Brian Bullock of Starkville; two great-grandchildren, Addison and Avery Richardson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Margaret Green.

Pallbearers will be Richard Martin, David Martin, Brian Bullock, Marc Martin, Bobby Richardson, and Thomas Wayne Sanderson.

The Terry Byars Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Visitation will continue 11 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Tupelo.
