Obituary for Ouida Rae Johnson

Verona - Ouida Rae Johnson, 86, died Friday, October 14, 2011, at her son’s residence in Tupelo. She was born in Kemper County on May 6, 1925 to Lawrence E. and Mary Elizabeth Barker. She worked at Blue Mountain College as a Dorm Mother and was affectionately known as “Mamaw”. She was an active and devoted member of First Baptist Church of Verona where she served as a Sunday School teacher, worked with the Sunbeams and the GA’s. She loved her family, her church, sewing, gardening and cooking.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2011 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Lowell Johnson and Rev. Jason Marlin officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include one son, Rev. Lowell Johnson (Sherry) of Tupelo; three daughters, Amelda Armstrong of Verona, Darleene Stovall (Larry) of Murphreesboro, Tennessee and Delba Marlin (Jerry) of Dorsey; eight grandchildren, Tim Johnson, Cristy Walter (Steve), Matt Armstrong (Amy), Traci Cobb (Joe), Jodie Stovall (Brandie), Alayna Jordan (Tim), Rev. Jason Marlin (Sarah) and John-Michael Marlin (Kelly); twenty great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil F. Johnson; her parents; her daughter-in-law, Janice Johnson; three brothers.

Pallbearers will be Tim Johnson, Matt Armstrong, John-Michael Marlin, Steve Walter, Joe Cobb and Wayne Kelly.

Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the funeral home.
