Obituary for James Ercell "Jim" Witt, Sr.

Mooreville - James Ercell “Jim” Witt, 82, died Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at The Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born April 25, 1929, the son of Shelby and Ruby Ridings Witt. He was retired from Rockwell/Delta after 33 years of service as an engineer. He enjoyed traveling, visiting with good friends and family around a cup of coffee, but most importantly, he loved his family and adored his wife of 22 years, Daris, whom he affectionately called Sweetie. He was a member of Andrews Chapel Methodist Church.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2011 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Sammy Washburn and Rev. Robert McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Daris Martin Witt of Mooreville; his son, Jim Witt Jr. (Annette) of Peppertown; two step-sons, Tim Martin (Donita) of Verona and Tony Martin (DeAnna) of Gallatin, Tenn.; his sister, Sybil Edwards (Leon) of Tupelo; two grandchildren, Leigh Ann Melear (Scott) and Johnathan Witt, all of Peppertown; two great-grandchildren, Ashton and Cole; five step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren..

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Catherine Witt; and a daughter, Cathy Pennington.

Pallbearers will be Tim Martin, Tony Martin, Kirk Alderson, Gary Carroll, Kenneth Walker, and Paul Stroud.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Adult Sunday School Class of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be noon to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
