Obituary for Mary Kathryn Johns

SHERMAN – Mary Kathryn Goughnour Johns, 85, died July 31, 2010, at her home in Sherman after a brief illness. She was a retired seamstress for the furniture business for over 30 years. She was born in the state of Idaho in the year of 1925 and was raised in Kansas by John and Alice Goughnour. She had lived in Sherman since 1965. She was a member of Sherman United Methodist Church where she played the organ. She loved reading, crocheting, working all kind of word puzzles and jig-saw puzzles. She loved her flowers and the special time spent with her family. She was the widow of Charles Everett Johns to whom she was married to for 53 years.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors with the Rev. Sammy Coker officiating. Burial will be in the Sherman Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheela Hamblin of Tupelo; three sons, Gerald Johns and his wife, Patricia of Tupelo, Ricky Johns and his wife, Frankie of Tupelo and Terry Johns of Sherman; one brother, Sherrell Hunt of Anaheim, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Marsh Burchfield and her husband, Lanny of Pinedale, Jana Pettit and her husband, Keith of Houston, Lori Gann and her husband, Mike of Pontotoc, Scotty Johns and his wife, Cory of Atlanta, Andy Johns, Shane Johns, both of Tupelo, Brad Lanphere of Saltillo and Ashley Treadaway of Sherman; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, John Everett “John” Johns; and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home
