Obituary for George C. Jones

Eastman, GA - George Clifford Jones, 89, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Crescent Ridge Nursing Home in Eastman, Georgia. A native of Eastman, he was born December 6, 1921, to John Lewis and Winnie Saunders Jones. He attended Victory Baptist Church in Pontotoc while he lived in Tupelo. A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, he served aboard the USS New Mexico during battles in the South Pacific and the initial occupation of Japan. He was retired from CFW Construction. He loved the outdoors, working for friends and neighbors. He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, fishing and hunting, especially with his nephew, Glynn Maddox, in Eastman, Ga. during his later years.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Lee Memorial Park with Rev. Douglas Jones officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his step-children, Martha Dale Stegall (Pat) of Pontotoc, Ray Monaghan (Darinda) of Tupelo; step-grandchildren, Mike Coker, David Coker, Eddie Stegall, Becky Stegall, Debra Burt, Terri Monaghan, Robin Lowe, Dana Wallace; nieces and nephews, Bobby Maddox, Jimmy Jones, Brenda Rogers, Johnny Jones, Cindy Hardy, all of Eastman, Ga., Winnie Ruth Searcy of Elberton, Ga., and Barbara Lewis of Talmadge, Ohio; great-nieces and nephews, Marty Brack, Karen Johnson, John Maddox, Scott White, and Carlotte Peacock, all of Eastman, Ga., Carl Maddox of Jeffersonville, Ga., and Robby White of Cordele, Ga.; special caregivers, his great nephew, Glynn Maddox (Laura), niece, Sara White, and great-niece, Ann Bohannon, all of Eastman

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Blaylock Jones who died in 1994; brothers and sisters, Clarence Jones, Addie Lee Jones Maddox, Charlie Jones, and Jack Jones; and nephews, Thomas L. Maddox and Claude Maddox; and one step-daughter, Sarah Jo Tackett

Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
